SALEM - Edith Marie Blythe, age 94, of Lisbon went home to be with her Lord at 3:55 p.m., Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Covington Nursing Home in East Palestine. She was born July 25, 1918 in Salem, the daughter of the late Carl Eli and Ethel (Sommers) McLaughlin.
Her husband, Orville Marshall Blythe, whom she married December 31, 1934, preceded her in death February 3, 1995.
Edith had worked at the American Laundry for a number of years and was also a Girl Scout leader to many young girls in the Damascus area. She and her husband lived most of their life in the Damascus area. Before moving to the Covington Nursing Home in East Palestine, Edith had spent 5 years living with her son in Lisbon.
She was a member of the Farm Women's Club and attended the Damascus and Bunker Hill Methodist churches. She enjoyed camping and traveling with her husband and two oldest grandchildren, Kim and Shelly throughout the United States. She and her husband were also members of the Scotty (Camping) Club. She loved sewing, quilting, picnics and entertaining many friends and family members for the holidays. She was loved and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Edith is survived by a daughter, Susan Diefenbaugh of Indianapolis, Indiana and a son Orville Blythe, Jr. of Lisbon, a sister Esther Jane Turner of Salem, eight grandchildren: Kim Johns, Shelly Wray, Jeri Nelis, Jackie Ferril, DeWayne (Sonny) Johns and Michael Diefenbaugh, Jr., all of Indiana, Michael (Lisa) Blythe of Salem and Randy Blythe of Lisbon; Thirteen great grandchildren: Chris, Tabetha, Kevin, Danielle, Nichole, Ashely, Blythe, Chris Jr., Courtney, Jennifer, Alissa, Elizabeth and Wesley; three great great grandchildren, Karissa, Leslie and Carter and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Erwin, Bill and Glen McLaughlin and two very beloved nephews, Ron and Jeff McLaughlin.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 29, 2013 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. James Mohr officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday evening 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
