HEATH - Beaver Local is sending four wrestlers to the state tournament after action at the Division II district meet at Heath High School on Saturday.
Joshua Henderson finished as the runner-up in the 113-pound division. Claymont's Dustin Warner beat Henderson, 4-1, in the final.
"He had a great tournament and he is the leader of our team.," Beaver Local wrestling coach Jordan Williams said. "He lead us today and was always the guy to get our rounds started off strong."
Daniel Hasson also was a runner-up as he fell to Claymont's Drew Avery, 12-5, in the 138-pound final.
"He out-conditioned his competition this week," Williams said. "He has been winning tight matches and staying on the attack."
Ron Foster took third after beating Claymont's Drew Dillon, 4-2, in the consolation final.
"Ron battled all weekend," Williams said. "He lost in the quarterfinals and had to do some work to get out. He earned his way to Columbus by being a tough kid and going hard for six minutes."
Beaver Local freshman Jason Keyes found his way to Columbus by taking fourth in the 120-pound category. Meadowbrook's Jerard Patterson topped Keyes, 15-7, in the consolation final.
"Jason wrestled the best I have seen him wrestle all year," Williams said. "He gets to practice with Josh everyday and that has benefited him greatly. He showed a lot of guts and heart today."
Daniel Lattanzio (170) just missed a state berth by taking fifth.
"He wrestled well all weekend," Williams said. "Things didn't finish out the way we would have liked but it wasn't for a lack of effort. He gave it everything he had and that's the way our sport is sometime. I'm proud of him. He's been a consistent pillar in our lineup and our team all year."
Minerva advanced three to Columbus in Harrison Hoppel (195), Dalton Hartshorn (145) and Nathan Smith (120).
Hoppel beat Tri-Valley's Austin Jones, 9-7, to win his weight class. Smith finished second behind Carrollton's Joey Miller after a 4-1 loss in the final. Hartshorn was third in his class after pinning Carrollton's Tristan Stallard in the consolation final.
East Liverpool's Alex Potts (106) was eliminated by Dover's Corey Marshall in a 12-4 maj. decision in the consolation semifinals. East Liverpool's Cody Oiler (120) bowed out in his consolation opener to Utica's Dillon Fletcher by pin in 4:58.
Minerva's Cameron Canonico (113) and James Lutes (182) as well as Beaver Local's Josh Barber (145) and Cody Martsolf (285) were eliminated in the consolation bracket.
ALLIANCE - West Branch advanced three wrestlers to the state meet, but did not have any district champions on Saturday at the Division II Alliance tournament.
Logan Sharp (220) finished second in his class after losing by injury default to Norton's Sean Rutherford.
Connor Sharp lost to Perry's Billy Miller, 3-2, in the heavyweight final.
Kenneth Faulkner (152) lost to Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy's Matt Dobben, 5-1, in the consolation final to place fourth.
All of the Warriors other wrestlers were eliminated in the consolation bracket.
GARFIELD HEIGHTS - Crestview's Matt Hardenbrook punched his ticket to the state wrestling meet by taking third at the Garfield Heights Division III?district tournament on Saturday.
Hardenbrook, a senior, beat Northwestern's Joey Meek, 9-5, in the consolation final.
South Range's Anthony Renforth (126), Wellsville's Phillip Thrasher (126), Seth Bloor (220) and Adam Harless (170), Crestview's Dimitri Gregory (220) and United's Charlie Smith (285) were eliminated in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
