South Range board OKs administrative contracts

BEAVER TOWNSHIP- The South Range Local school board Monday night approved new administrative contracts.

The board approved five-year contracts with no increase in pay to Elementary Principal Steve Matos and Director of Special Education and Curriculum Shari Lewis, effective Aug. 1, 2013, through July 31, 2018; and Treasurer Jim Phillips and Superintendent Dennis Dunham effective Aug. 1, 2014, through July 31. 2019.

The board also accepted the retirement of Assistant Food Service Manager Ardeth Strabala effective March 1 and granted supplemental coaching contracts for the 2013-14 school year to Alan Styer, head boys soccer; Paul Lindstrom, head girls soccer; and Jeffrey Derose, assistant softball.

In other business, the board approved the 2013-14 academic calendar with the first day of classes on Sept. 4, last day June 11 and commencement June 7. The board also appointed Jeff Good as student achievement liaison and Delaine DeChellis as OSBA legislative liaison for 2013.

Board offices: Dunham reported that the board offices facility being built across state Route 46 from the K-12 campus is currently under construction and should be under roof by the end of this month. Date of occupancy is April 1.

The board will hold an auction to sell off any usable parts of the current offices facility (the former Sauerwein house) located at 11375 state Route 46 across from the K-12 campus from 9 a.m. to noon April 13. Anything that can be removed and reused is being sold including doors, windows, plumbing and electrical fixtures, cabinetry, a claw foot bath tub, hardwood flooring, slate roofing, 1880 vintage lumber and a gas furnace.

Open enrollment: The board approved an open enrollment policy for the 2013-14 school year. The district will hold an Open Enrollment Open House for all perspective students interested in attending the district for the 2013-2014 school year at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 in the K-12 complex Auditorium.

Students in grades kindergarten through six that reside in adjacent school districts may be eligible to attend the district via an application process. The intent of the meeting will be to communicate the open enrollment process with parents and tour the K-12 Complex. A question and answer session will be held as part of the general meeting.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 18 in the K-12 campus Band Room.
