Tomahawk home destroyed by fire

February 18, 2013
Morning Journal News

NEGLEY - A Saturday night fire destroyed a home in the Lake Tomahawk area, according to Negley Fire Chief Gary Banicki.

The call came in about 11 p.m., after witnesses reported seeing smoke coming from the Tomahawk Drive home of Andrew Long, who Banicki said lived alone and was at work at the time.

The fire was involved when the first firefighters arrived on scene at the one-story, wood-frame structure with a brick facade. Also assisting were the Calcutta, East Palestine and New Waterford fire departments.

Banicki said they cleared the scene between 4:30 and 5 a.m. Sunday but had to return twice Sunday afternoon when the embers rekindled.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, and the state fire marshal's office has been contacted to assist in the investigation.
