SALEM - Herbert D. Ward, age 77, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday Feb. 16, 2013, at the Sterling House of Salem, where he resided for the past two and a half years.
He was born May 6, 1935, in East Palestine, Ohio, son of the late Roy and Ethel (Scott) Ward. Herb retired from the Hunt Valve Co. with 35 years of service, where he was in the positions of engineering and sales.
He was a member of the Salem First United Methodist Church, member of Salem Elks Lodge No. 305, and former member of United Commercial Travelers. Herb was a graduate of East Palestine High School.
His wife Ruth (Coy) Ward, preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 2000, they were married Feb. 15, 1979. Survivors include a daughter Victoria Honeywell and husband David; sons, Michael Ward of Salem, Steven Ward and his wife Marilyn of Salem, Eric Ward of Salem; grandchildren, Meghan Honeywell, Kacie Honeywell, Allison Ward, Haley Ward, Amy Blickenderfer, Jay Coy, Ann Bock, Cathy Schwirey, Lisa Gulier, and Jennifer Stroup; 8 great grandchildren; brothers, Glenn Ward of East Palestine, Ohio, Lee (Roy) Ward of Delaware, Ohio, and Wesley Ward of Yakima, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Helen Beight; brothers Donald and Floyd Ward; infant brother Richard Ward; and stepsons Terry and Jack Coy.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday Feb. 18, 2013 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Doug George officiating. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
