Property dispute hearing set

February 12, 2013
Morning Journal News

NEW CUMBERLAND-A hearing has been scheduled for a property dispute between Hancock County commissioners and attorney Lawrence Manypenny.

The hearing is set for 10 a.m. Feb. 20 in Courtroom 1 of Hancock County Circuit Court.

Commissioners filed a motion for an injunction against Manypenny last week after caution tape, pylons and signs appeared on the strip of land, adjacent to Hancock County Magistrate Court, that Manypenny claims ownership of. His law office is next door to the court building.

Manypenny wants compensation for the county's use of the land. Commissioners appeal to a 30-year-old arrangement that has ensured public access to the court.

The case has been assigned to Hancock County Circuit Court Judge James P. Mazzone.
