East Palestine 46, Beaver Local 37

EAST PALESTINE -Beaver Local got off to a slow start offensively on Monday and were never able to overcome an early defecit in a 46-37 loss against East Palestine.

The Bulldogs took a 16-4 lead after the first quarter and went into the half with an 18-point advantage.

The Beavers' offense came alive in the third quarter with 21 points, but the Bulldogs were able to increase their lead in the final frame.

The win moves East Palestine to 5-15 on the season, while Beaver Local falls to 3-18.

Brooke Gedeon led all scorers with 19 points on the night to go with nine rebounds for East Palestine.

Logan Gatchel and Courtney Weber both finished with 10 points, while Kelsey McKim added two points and five rebounds.

No Beaver Local players reached double digits. Danna Talbott led the Beavers with nine points, while Sierra Wright and Courntey Ricciardi both finished with eight points.

In junior varsity action, Beaver Local came out a winner, 32-27. Sam Kendall paced the Beavers with 11 points, while Abby Fuller led the Bulldogs with six points.

Southern Local 46, American Spirit Academy 19

CHESTER - Kati Hipsley totaled a game-high 13 points, 11 assists and nine steals in leading Southern Local past American Spirit Academy, 46-19, Monday.

Hipsley set a single-season school record with 101 steals, breaking the mark of 99 held by Jennah Phillis.

The Indians (11-11, 7-7 ITCL), who took a 21-7 halftime lead, shot 56 percent from the field to pull away.

Rachel Coil grabbed 10 rebounds and scored seven for Southern, while Brittany Webber grabbed eight rebounds.

COLUMBIANA - Wellsville opened an early lead on Monday and never looked back en route to a 51-16 victory against Heartland Christian.

The win moves the Tigers to 10-12 on the season, while the Lions fall to 4-17.

Wellsville outscored Heartland, 14-7, in the opening frame and took a 23-point lead into halftime.

Amanda Coles paced the Tigers with a game-high 18 points and also nabbed four steals.

Brittany Clendenning netted 12 points.

For the Lions, Ginny Burgess led the way with eight points, while Madison Pennington added four points and eight rebounds.

In junior varsity action, Wellsville came out on top, 36-31, against Lisbon. Rasheeda Kalam led the Tigers with 13 points, while Hannah Prasco paced the Blue Devils with 11 points.

Heartland Christian will play Columbiana at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in a sectional opener at South Range. Wellsville will play the winner of that game at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 in a sectional opener. Heartland

WELLSBURG -Oak Glen couldn't get past Brooke on Monday, dropping a 60-49 road contest.

The Bruins opened the game strong, outscoring the Bears, 16-9, in the opening quarter.

Jessica Stivason paced the Bears with 14 points, followed by Karly Wiley with 10 points.

Brooke was led by Angela Staffileno who finished with a game-high 33 points.

The loss drops Oak Glen to 10-9 on the season.

LISBON -A career-high 24 points from Tiffany Ketchum helped push Lisbon past Sebring on Monday, 42-35.

While both teams each scored 21 points in the second half, the Blue Devils made their mark in the first two quarter and took a seven-point lead into halftime.

Lisbon improves to 12-10 with the victory.

Katy Crismon finished with 10 points for Lisbon, while Pam Pierce added four points, seven rebounds, five steals and five assists.

For the Trojans, Murphy Flowers led with 16 points, followed by Kelsi Settle with 15 points.

BELMONT - Edison fell to Buckeye Local in overtime 46-44 in sectional play on Monday evening. Molly McCoy paced the Wildcats with 14 points. Abby Fonow recorded a double-double for Edison, pouring in 10 points and pulling down 16 rebounds. Katelyn Pollock also recorded double figures, with 10 points.

Kayla Fillipovich paced Buckeye Local with 19 points.
