Man charged as John Doe identified

EAST LIVERPOOL - A man charged Sunday as "John Doe" has been identified and appeared in Municipal Court Wednesday.

According to court personnel, the man admitted being Shannon Hinton, 23, of Cleveland.

He had been charged by city police with two counts of falsification and obstructing official business after he reportedly gave them a wrong name and other identification and then refused to be fingerprinted.

Two court appearances had been scheduled and then rescheduled when Hinton continued to claim he was someone else, despite officers having verified his photograph and identification with Cuyahoga County officials, who said he is wanted as a witness in a case there.

In court Wednesday, Hinton appeared before acting Judge Coleen Hall Dailey, who set a pretrial for today on the three original charges as well as the additional charge of furnishing false information to avoid a citation.

Hinton also waived his right to an extradition hearing and consented to be returned to Cuyahoga County once his case is completed here.

Hinton was taken into custody after an officer stopped a vehicle in the Woodland Hills housing complex that was being driven by a woman the officer said was known to be involved in drug activity.
