KNOX TOWNSHIP- The township trustees will seek additional money to maintain roads. Residents will see a 1.5-mill, five year levy for road maintenance on the May 7 primary ballot. The new money levy will generate approximately $116,800 annually for the purchase and maintenance of road equipment, according to Fiscal Officer Debra Hartzell.
Hartzell noted that the township is one of the few in the county that has no current levy generating funds for road maintenance. But increased costs and multiple cuts to the budget has left the trustees with few options, she said.
"With the continued cuts we're receiving at all levels, it's becoming necessary to put something on (the ballot)," she said.
Hartzell said the trustees filed the issue with the board of elections on Friday.
