Red Knights tops at Buck Bailey

WELLSVILLE - Toronto came out on top Saturday at the annual Buck Bailey Tournament held at Wellsville High School.

The Red Knights took first place with 199 1/2 points followed by Edison (113), East Liverpool (108 1/2), Steubenville CC (96 1/2), Crestview (93), Oak Glen (84 1/2), Beaver?Local (71) and Wellsville (66).

A total of 17 schools participated in the tournament.

The Potters had three wrestlers crowned as champions.

East Liverpool's Alex Potts took first place at 106 pounds. Potts, a sophomore, defeated Toronto's Alex Anderson by major decision, 15-4, in the finals.

Cody Oiler was champion at 120 pounds for the Potters. Oiler, a sophomore, beat Malvern's Nate Gaston by fall (5:01) in the finals.

At 132 pounds, East Liverpool's Frankie Williams took first place by defeating Oak Glen's Alex Shuman by fall (1:12) in the finals. Williams was named the tournament's MVP and won the award for fastest pin, taking down Steubenville CC's Mike Orsatti in just six seconds.

Chad Reed took second place at 170 pounds, while Joel Cunningham finished in fourth place at 113 pounds for the Potters.

Oak Glen's Danny Wyke took third place at 113 pounds.

At 152 pounds, the Bears' saw Will Hogan take third place and Devon Chadwick in fourth.

For Beaver Local, Jason Keyes took the top spot at 126 pounds. Keyes got past West Geauga's AJ Vetturini, 6-5, in the finals.

Another first-place finisher for the Beavers was Daniel Hasson at 138 pounds. Hasson beat Toronto's Jimmy Starkey by fall (4:26) in the finals.

Wellsville's Eric Hardman was third at 160 pounds, while Phillip Thrasher was fourth at 126 pounds.

At 170 pounds, Adam Harless took fourth place for the Tigers.

Beaver?Local will wrestle Tri-Valley on Wednesday at Steubenville in the OHSAA Team Tournament. Wellsville will host Crestview and Linsly in a tri-match Wednesday.

On Thursday, East Liverpool will host Oak Glen in a dual.

NOTES: Edison won the tournament last season.
