EAST LIVERPOOL - Drug-related charges are pending against several people after officers received a tip of drug activity at the East Liverpool Motor Lodge Tuesday night.
A drug enforcement officer received the tip, and he and another officer did some surveillance at the Dresden Avenue motel, according to police Chief John Lane.
The allegations were confirmed through their surveillance, and the city's afternoon shift went into action just before 10 p.m., with Lane saying, "They went out and paid a visit and one thing led to another."
Inside the motel room, officers reported finding heroin, crack cocaine, prescription pills, hydroponic marijuana, digital scales and a police scanner. Also found was almost $1,500 in cash and a 9-mm handgun.
All occupants including one man from Youngstown and three from this area were checked for active warrants, but they had none against them, Lane said, adding that the person whose name was given by the tipster was not in the room.
The suspected narcotics will be sent for testing and charges are pending, and the investigation is continuing.
"The afternoon crew and drug enforcement did an excellent job," Lane said, saying, "It was the drug officer's day off, but he got a tip and acted on it."
