Esther Salmen

SALEM - Esther Louise Salmen, age 93, of Salem, died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at Blossom Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born Sept. 8, 1919 in East Palestine, Ohio, the daughter of the late James and Mary Edith (Evans) Welch.

Mrs. Salmen graduated from New Waterford High School and worked at the Refractory in East Palestine before retiring from the shipping department of Salem Label Company in 1984.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Fadely Guild of the church. She was also a member of Salem Senior Citizens and Salem Retirees.

Her husband, William Salmen, whom she married Sept 10, 1949, preceded her in death Feb. 11, 1969.

Survivors include a son, Robert (Susan) Salmen of Raleigh, N.C., and two grandchildren, Sara and Michael Salmen.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas George officiating. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Carmel Cemetery.
