Shenanigan's Pub to open

January 7, 2013
Morning Journal News

LISBON - A new tavern is coming to town sometime this spring in the former Chevrolet dealership detail garage at the end of South Jefferson Street.

Shenanigan's Pub is the idea of William T. Jackson Jr., whose partner in the venture is Wade Richards. Jackson believes there is a market in the central business district for a place where people can come to share a drink, hang out or dance.

"I just want it to be a nice respectful place for someone who wants to get a drink. If they want to sit on the quiet side they can. If they want to dance, they can do that, too," he said.

The 2,500-square-foot garage is currently being renovated to include a "quiet side," where a pool table and juke box will be located. The other side of the establishment is where people can dance to the DJs and live bands that will perform.

There will be limited menu but Jackson expects that to change. "Right now it's just a bar, but we plan to add a dining room down the road," he said.

Jackson, 41, of state Route 164, has a business that sells and services ATMs, but his grandparents, Jim and Mary May, owned and operated Mark's Landing at Guilford Lake for 10 years between the 1970s and 1980s.

"I've always been around restaurants. I've never run one, but I'm going to learn fast," he said. "I just want to venture into something new."

The property was purchased in November from Rick Quinn, the former owner of Quinn Chevrolet dealership. It was sold separately from the main car lot and showroom located a block away, which was purchased in August by the owners of the Elkton Auto Corral.

Jackson expects the pub will employ six to eight people, and he said the property does not need to be rezoned since it already lies in an area of town zoned for business. He has also obtained a state liquor license for the establishment.

He expects Shenanigan's Pub to open in four or five months.
