SALEM - City police are looking for a man who stole cash and two cartons of cigarettes from Circle K East on East State Street early Wednesday after brandishing a utility knife.

Police Chief Bob Floor said the suspect was described as 5 feet 9 inches or 5 feet 10 inches tall, believed to be in his 20s, wearing a plaid jacket, blue jeans, a hood possibly over a winter hat with a green scarf covering his face.

A clerk from the store at 1125 E. State St. called police at 2:53 a.m. to report an armed robbery had just occurred and the suspect fled with merchandise and an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect fled the store on foot, last seen traveling east.

Floor described the weapon as a utility-type knife.

Anyone with information about the incident should call police at 330-337-7811.
