Hobby Lobby takes a stand

January 2, 2013
Morning Journal News

Obamacare requires businesses to provide health insurance that covers abortion pills (commonly called the HHS Mandate). The Hobby Lobby Co. filed a lawsuit because the HHS Mandate violates the owner's religious beliefs.

While their lawsuit proceeds, Hobby Lobby asked for reprieve from being forced to provide the abortion pill coverage (which would start Jan. 1, 2013). Their emergency injunction request was denied by the Supreme Court.

However, rather than give in to the demands and religious freedom violation being forced upon them, Hobby Lobby has announced that they will defy the mandate and not pay for the abortion pills in the insurance they provide for their employees.

The potential fines Hobby Lobby faces are up to $1.3 million per day.

While scripture says Christians are to obey the government, it also says we are only to do so if government does not violate God's commands. Clearly, the mandate to provide abortion pills violates the commandment, "Thou shalt not kill."

I applaud Hobby Lobby for their civil disobedience.
