Library launches website upgrade

LEETONIA - Patrons of the Leetonia Community Public Library will have an easier time finding information on the library's website.

With the assistance of Tim Whitehouse of Columbiana, the library recently launched a new website that is easier to navigate and offers several new services, according to Library Director Lisa Rohrbaugh. The new site, which will remain at, enables patrons to renew and reserve items, as well as pay fines and make donations, online. Patrons will also be able to access eBooks now thanks to a generous anonymous donation to fund the follet on the site and a one-year membership to the eBook Project provided by the Friends of the Library.

"I am extremely pleased with the website and hope that the public will log on and take a look for themselves," Rohrbaugh said. "The old website wasn't up-to-date, there wasn't much more than the catalogue."

In addition to the standard catalogue of materials and the eBooks, audio books and movies now available through the Ohio eBook Project, the new site includes an online calendar of events for each month and easy access to many databases for searching including Mango in which one can learn another language. It also includes a contact form, a slideshow of photographs and a brief history of the library, as well as a link to the library's Facebook page. There are also links to the village and school district websites.

Whitehouse, who also designed the website for the Canfield War Vet Museum, said he and library staff elected for a simple, traditional website so that patrons could find information quickly.

"The main focus was to make it easy for people to get to the information they need," explained Whitehouse, who volunteered his time to design the site after his wife, Carolyn, starting working at the library a few months ago.

" I hope it helps the community out so that they can find their information, see a benefit to the community," he said. "God gave me a talent to bring good to others, so I volunteer and am more than happy to do it, knowing that people are going to be able to use it, that it's going to help."

Rohrbaugh praised Whitehouse and other donors that helped get the site up and running.

"On behalf of the Library Board of Trustees and the staff, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to an anonymous donor who made the purchase of Follett Destiny software possible (this enables the circulation of eBooks); to the Friends of the Library for their generous donation to join the Ohio eBook Project for one year; and a special thanks to Tim Whitehouse for his many months of work on the new website; his creative, thoughtful suggestions, hard work and patience," she said.
