Parking on twp. streets forbidden

December 23, 2012
Morning Journal News

LaCROFT - Now that snow is on the ground, Liverpool Township trustees are reminding residents that there is no parking on township streets.

"People don't normally park on county or state roads, but when it comes to township roads, people think it's their own private parking lot," Trustee Karl Kontnier said.

Residents who continue to park on township streets after receiving a warning will be ticketed or, if necessary, towed, he said.

"It makes it hard for snow trucks with plows to get through," Kontnier said. "We're going to crack down on that."

"We've got to be able to clean our roads," Trustee Keith Burke said.

Trustees addressed the issue at a regular meeting that they rescheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday because of the holidays. Trustees normally meet at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of the month.

Liverpool Township Patrolman Jayson Jackson said residents with vehicles parked on the street will first get a written warning, then a ticket. The township also has towed vehicles in the past, Kontnier said.

Also Saturday, trustees:

* Authorized Kontnier to be the township's agent when negotiating for the purchase of two new police cruisers. Two current cruisers have in excess of 100,000 miles on them and need to be replaced. "It's time," Kontnier said. The township hopes to take advantage of discounted pricing through the state's Cooperative Purchasing Program and have an order placed before a production deadline at the end of February, he said.

* Appropriated $10,000 from the permanent improvement fund to pay for upgrades to township buildings, including the storage building.

* Appointed road Foreman Bill Hutchman to fill the unexpired term of William Horrocks on the township zoning board of appeals. Horrocks' resignation from the board is effective Dec. 31. There are two years left on his term.
