LEETONIA- A portion of State Street is closed due to a sink hole, according to Superintendent of Utilities Butch Donnalley.
Donnalley told Village Council Wednesday night that the eastbound lane of State Street east of Hazel Street has been blocked off after the department discovered a sink hole beginning in the roadway. He said a camera will be run through the sanitary system on Friday in an attempt to determine the cause.
Donnalley noted that there are no remnants of debris in the nearest manhole, nor are other manholes backed up, indicating that the main line has not collapsed.
A sink spot on the berm near the current hole had been filled in the past several times, but it is unclear whether the two are related at this point, Donnalley said.
In other business, the Orchard Hill Manor Homeowner's Association requested that the village assume the right-of-way to Orchard Hill Drive, including water and sanitary sewer.
According to Village Administrator Gary Phillips, the original intent was to keep the drive private property, but financial constraints have made it difficult for the homeowners. Phillips said the drive will have to be inspected, as will the original plans, to make sure everything meets the village specifications.
Council agreed to look into the possible action.
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 2 at Village Hall.
