Tipton making an impact for Bison

Wellsville graduate has scored in double digits in last 3 games

BETHANY - Scoring has come easily too Mikyla Tipton throughout her basketabll career.

Tipton, a 2012 graduate of Wellsville High School, left the southern Columbiana County school as the program's all-time leading scorer. Tipton surpassed the 1,000 point mark in her junior year with the Tigers.

After high schoool, Tipton decided to further her education and to play basketball at Bethany?College.

As she did previously at Wellsville, Tipton has made an impact at Bethany as a freshman.

Tipton has played in all 10 games the Bison have played so far this season.

Bethany currently has an overall record of 4-6. The Bison are 2-2 in?Presidents' Athletic Conference play.

Bethany opened the season with three-straight losses before earning its win of the season Nov. 26 at Penn State Beaver.

In Bethany's 76-58 victory over the Lions' Tipton faced off against East Liverpool graduate Brittany Thomaselli.

After the win, the Bison lost two-straight games before Bethany won three-straight games.

The winning streak came to an end Monday night at Mount Aloysius.

So far this season, Tipton is averaging 20.2 minutes of playing time. She is averaging 6.4 points per game.

She is shooting 52.2 percent from the floor and 76.2 percent from the free-throw line. She is averaging 3.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.8 steals and .2 blocks per game.

Tipton has scored in double digits four times this season, including reaching double digits in three-straight games. Tipton scored a career-high 14 points Monday night, 11 points against Denison back on Nov. 17 at the Wilmington?Tournament and she scored 10 points against both Geneva (Dec. 5) and Thiel (last Saturday).

Tipton's first-career start came against Thiel in a game played at Nutting Gymnasium. Tipton also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists to go along with her 10 points in the Bison victory.

Bethany play again at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at home against Hiram. The game is the final one for the Bison in the first semester. After the game against Hiram, the Bison will be off until playing at 6 p.m. Jan. 2 at Westminster.
