LISBON - The 5-year-old boy injured in a Salem Township home where his grandmother was killed, is awake but not really talking, according to Sheriff Ray Stone.
Investigators went again Thursday afternoon to Akron Children's Hospital to speak with Cole Tyler Reed, who was at the home when the woman he considered his mother, Melinda Todd, 43, was killed. Reed reportedly is giving thumbs up and thumbs down hand signals, but not speaking.
The boy's grandfather, Chris Milsom, said on Tuesday the boy suffered from a shooting injury to the left side of his head. He was taken on Monday afternoon to Salem Community Hospital and flown to Akron Children's Hospital soon after, where he underwent surgery.
Stone said he is still awaiting a copy of the coroner's preliminary report on Thursday, which is expected to provide information on cause of death and a possible time frame. The body of Todd was sent to the coroner's office in Summit County for an autopsy.
Investigators have continued to work on leads throughout the day Thursday, but no arrest had been made.
The body of Todd and the injured child were found by Todd's daughters when they got off the bus Monday afternoon.
