Family Rental will get you a car anytime

December 5, 2012
Morning Journal News

SALEM _ The sign in front of Family Car and Truck Rental asks, "Why wait till Monday? Call us anytime ... we'll meet you here (evenings and weekends)."

Click to the website and it asks: Need a car fast?

The idea is you can get it here when it's not be available somewhere else.

Convenience is the marketing hook for Family Car and Truck Rental which not only rents cars, trucks, vans, minivans, moving units, but has a Bobcat compact track loader available along with a log-splitter.

The business is owned by Keith and Mary Yerkey and has its origins in a 56-unit, two building storage lot (Mary's Storage Center) in the 13000 block of Benton Road, Mary explained.

They opened that in 2006 and, she explained, "There were requests for rental trucks all the time that we didn't have. People using storage were looking for trucks ... and utility trailers and we decided later to get into cars."

Yerkey added, "My husband is very ambitious."

He drives a truck and he doesn't like sitting around, Yerkey said, explaining that, "If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be doing this."

She added, "He's always looking for something."

Family Car and Truck Rentals is open on weekdays and available evenings and weekends to serve the Salem, Alliance, Columbiana, Lisbon, Beloit, Sebring, Minerva, Boardman, Youngstown and Canfield areas.

Regular office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 pm. and by calling 330-332-1510 anytime.

Yerkey said, "We will meet you there, get you in a car, truck, minivan, or passenger van and send you on your way. With no additional charges."

Customers can rent a daily, weekly or monthly rental and Yerkey said, "We offer substantial savings with weekly and monthly rentals."

The company started with a truck and two cars and has grown to a small fleet of 11 vehicles and now plans call for rental branches in Alliance, Columbiana and Boardman.

"This past summer we had a lot of rentals back and forth to Pennsylvania for newly employed people with the oil and gas companies," Yerkey said.

"That was a good jump start for us."

She added, "We like to advertise that we're available and we get a lot of business within a 30-mile radius. There's no one to service them. We try to accommodate customers on a 24-hour basis."

Yerkey said they offer competitive rates.

"We check the competition ... and focus on convenience," she said, adding they also deal with insurance companies.
