FRANKLIN SQUARE - Salem Township trustees passed a resolution approving Bob Wines to serve on the Buckeye Water District during Wednesday's meeting.

At the Nov. 14 meeting, Bob Wines, who is a member of the Buckeye Water District and up for reappointment, spoke to trustees during about getting reappointed.

He is one of nine board members and the only one whose term expires this year. It expires on Dec. 31.

Trustee Bill Heston said he and Trustee Ray Heddleson attended a water district meeting and they wanted to nominate Wines for the appointment which was passed unanimously.

In other business, Constable Dan Valentine advised the board there is a hole in the one-lane bridge on Butcher Road. Valentine described it as "a big hole" and Road Supervisor Jason Entrikin said it was on the repair list for next year, but Trustee Chairman John Wilms said, "We need to fix it. We need to keep it repaired for winter" and Entrikin said he would look at patching it.

Valentine also asked residents and motorists to keep an eye out for people in pickups discarding large plastic bags. He related two reports on Monday of people dumping deer carcasses.

"I assume they're poaching them," Valentine said, "a lot of times they put it in a bag and throw it in a ditch.

"It's hunting season now but it doesn't mean they're hunting legally."

Anyone seeing suspicious activity should call Valentine at 330-427-0808.

Also the Salem Township and the Leetonia police departments are holding their annual care and share program accepting money donations for needy families.

Money donations, which are preferred, can be dropped off at the Leetonia Police Department, 300 E. Main St. in Leetonia or township residents can call Valentine and he can pick up the donation.
