Taylor leads Tigers past Lions, 64-18

WELLSVILLE - The Tigers ran past the Lions.

The Wellsville girls' basketball team jumped out to a 20-5 lead en route to a 64-18 season-opening victory Tuesday night over visiting Heartland Christian.

Shartece Taylor led the way for the Tigers (1-0) with a game-high 17 points to go along with three rebounds and two assists.

Also for Wellsville, Kallee' Powell produced 10 points and four assists, Kira Kelly, Sabrina Thompson, Brittany Clendenning and Amanda Coles all netted six points and Monica Wilson and Abbey Thrasher each recorded four points. Clendenning also contributed four rebounds and four steals, Coles collected four rebounds and Wilson ended up with five assists. Powell tallied four assists.

Finally, Rasheeda Kalam contributed three points, and Autumn Harris scored two points.

With the loss, the Lions are now 0-1 on the season.

East Palestine won the JV game against Wellsville, 53-23.

For the Bulldogs, Abby Fuller recorded 16 points, Carson Rutledge contributed 14 points and Haley Hall tallied 11 points.

For the Tigers, Destiny Crow and Kalam each finished with six points.

Wellsville's next game is Thursday night at home against local-rival East Liverpool.

Heartland Christian plays Thursday night at Sebring.

In other local action, Minerva defeated Edison, 63-22. Full results were not submitted to The Review by press time.
