CHESTER - A Chester boy injured in an accident on Sunday remains in critical condition at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh but appears to be improving, police Chief Ken Thorn said.

"I'm getting good reports from the family," Thorn said.

Tyler Simpson, 14, was seriously injured Sunday evening while crossing Carolina Avenue in front of Hancock County Savings Bank. Simpson was run over by a trailer being pulled by a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by Jason R. Juszczak, 37, of New Cumberland, Thorn said.

Juszczak was pulling a small utility trailer filled with wood, Thorn said, and Simpson apparently did not see it when he crossed after seeing the truck pass.

Thorn said Lt. Jim Bryan has completed his investigation and that no charges will be filed.

Simpson was flown by helicopter ambulance to the Pittsburgh hospital, where he has been since Sunday.

Simpson is an eighth-grader at Oak Glen Middle School.
