SALEM - Eleanor M. Wilson, 96, of Continental Drive, passed away peacefully at noon, Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Essex III of Salem.
Mrs. Wilson was born September 26, 1916 in Youngs-town, Ohio, a daughter of the late Harry and Ruby (Chidester) May.
Being blind from birth, Eleanor had many great achievements during her lifetime. She graduated valedictorian from Chaney High School and was an accomplished piano player and guitar player, playing in area traveling bands in her younger years. She also enjoyed horseback riding with her husband.
She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Eleanor was a member of Lisbon First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Wilson, whom she married Nov. 13, 1936; daughter, Kathy Strong; sisters, Ruth Mallery and Doris Beardsley; and brother, Harry Kenneth May.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Arlene Sinclair of Phoenix, Ariz.; sons, Wayne (Kathy) Wilson of Columbiana, Rod (Susan) Wilson of Salem, and Tod (Patty) Wilson of Kingsport, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
The family is planning a memorial service to be held at a later date.
