New Waterford utility funds ‘sitting fairly well’

NEW WATERFORD - Mayor Shane Patrone advised council that the village was "sitting fairly well on all the funds" during Tuesday's meeting.

He pointed to the water and sewer funds in particular noting there was $10,500 in the water fund and $7,000 in the sewer fund.

"We're doing better than at this time last year," he said and Fiscal Officer Dave Slagle backed up that sentiment up with little to report.

In other business, Administrator Fred Fink said that while the water department has been "chasing brown water reports" all over town for about six weeks "we stopped everything and went back to basics."

Fink said the entire distribution system was flushed repeatedly along with the line from Creek Road to the tower.

"We backwashed the filters every week and shut off the permanganate treatment," Fink said, adding, "we are working to get the chlorine levels down to where it's supposed to be."

He added, "It seems like we're gaining on it and getting less calls. We've been flushing every day ... people have been patient."

He said the wastewater plant is working well and two sewer plugs, one on Allendale and one at the mobile home park, were fixed along with two water line breaks at the mobile home park and two storm drains and catch basins were repaired on Creek Road.

Fink also advised council that two speed limit signs and posts were destroyed and two stop signs were destroyed and they have all be replaced.

The street department has started replacing speed limit signs.

"Snow removal equipment is serviced, painted and ready to go," he said.
