Jock Buta, executive vice president of Butech Bliss has been chosen as the 2012 "Outstanding Citizen of the Year."
He will be honored during the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce's 66th annual dinner on Nov. 16.
Buta has served his community in numerous ways and is recognized for his business acumen and for his service to the community. According to the chamber, "He is a person who deserves great respect for the work that he does within the business community."
Buta also devotes time to many of the area's non-profit and service organizations. According to the chamber, he was chosen as this year's recipient because of "his unwavering commitment to so many tasks, and for his tireless work and his dedication to excellence."
His volunteer community involvements include the following: board member of the Salem Chamber, board president of the Salem Area Industrial Development Corporation and the Sustainable Opportunity Development Center (SOD Center); board member of Leadership Columbiana County, supporter of the Salem Historical Society and the Dale Shaffer Research Library, and board chairman of the Junior Achievement Committee for the Salem area.
He also serves as a cubmaster for the St. Paul Cub Scout group. Most recently, Buta has been dedicated to fighting the war on graffiti that has appeared on buildings in Salem. He has tracked the graffiti pieces throughout the city and has provided research of potential city ordinances to address this problem.
Chamber members and guests are invited to this annual event that not only celebrates the chamber organization, but provides an opportunity to honor those who volunteer in the community.
The social hour begins at 5:15 p.m. at the Salem Golf Club followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m.
