WELLSVILLE - William E. Chema, of Wellsville, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012 at 2:40 p.m. at his home. He was 86.
Born in East Liverpool, June 6, 1926, he was a son of the late George and Mary Smurda Chema. A member of East Liverpool High School Class of 1944, he served with the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He returned home and worked at Weirton Steel and then for the former Fithian Vault Company. He later worked for Wellsville IGA and Metacon Systems.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and Holy Trinity Parish.
His wife, Dorothy "Doff" Chema, preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 2007. The couple married August 21, 1948. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Catherine Horoszko and Margaret Chema, as well as two brothers, Paul Chema and Stephen T. Chema.
His daughters survive, Karen Elliott, and her husband Don, of Wellsville, and Jeanne "Kook" Babcock, and her husband Russell, of La Grange, Ky. There are two grandchildren, Billy Babcock and Amber Waller, and her husband Dwayne, along with two great-granddaughters, Ruth Anne Waller and Emma Sue Waller.
Friends may visit Friday afternoon and evening at Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Fr. Peter Haladej will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Parish at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Wellsville.
