Perdue, Hall in treasurer race

November 3, 2012
Morning Journal News

Incumbent West Virginia Treasurer John Perdue, a Democrat, sees a challenge from current Republican state Sen. Mike Hall in the Nov. 6 election.

His work as a Methodist minister overseeing his church's finances led him to get his financial securities license in 1987, and in 1994, he took a job overseeing the pension plans for ministers across the nation. He presently works as a registered investment adviser for Cetera Financial.

"West Virginia's finances and economic standing are currently stressed by the looming federal requirements of Obamacare and other intrusive federal regulations," he said. "The (state) unemployment rate is 7.5 percent. We've had several months of rising unemployment, particularly in the coal industry."

He is a native of Dog Fork Hollow at Manila in Boone County, and he earned a degree from West Virginia University in 1972.

He is the chairman of the WVU College of Agriculture and Forestry Visiting Committee.
