New Waterford council OKs seeking grant for sewer line

November 2, 2012
Morning Journal News

NEW WATERFORD - Village council authorized Mayor Shane Patrone to apply for an Ohio Public Works Commission infrastructure funding grant during a special meeting on Tuesday.

Patrone said the grant will help pay to replace a sewage main from the wastewater treatment through the park and up to Main Street.

The OPWC Small Government Commission provides grants and loans to villages and townships with populations in the unincorporated areas of less than 5,000 in population.

Infrastructure programs include grant money for bridges, stormwater, roads, water and wastewater.

Patrone said the application, which must be submitted by Friday, is for $564,000 and the village share for the project will be $140,000.

The OPWC requires the use of domestic steel in projects it funds with the stipulation incorporated into contractual documents.

It also requires that the state prevailing wage is paid to employees on the project but the wage rates do not apply if project cost is less than the thresholds provided by the Ohio Department of Commerce.

The OPWC also requires that Ohio workers' compensation coverage is provided.
