BELOIT- The West Branch Local School District could enter a cash balance deficit during the 2014-2015 school year, according to its latest financial five-year forecast.
The school board Thursday night approved the forecast submitted by school Treasurer Daniel Telzrow. The cash balance is projected to be almost $690,000 in the red by July 2015, $2.9 million in 2016 and $5.3 million in 2017.
According to Telzrow, the district has been operating in a spending deficit the past two years and is projected to spend $877,000 more than it generates this year. That is expected to increase to almost $1.8 million next year.
"What we're seeing is a flat revenue base and expenditures that aren't," Telzrow said. "Last year I anticipated financial concerns within a couple years and we're approaching that position now."
Excellent district: Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott Weingart recognized students and staff for the district's recent local school report card rank of Excellent with Distinction.
In preliminary local report card results released by the Ohio Department of Education last week, West Branch attained the highest possible ranking by meeting all 26 indicators, earning a performance index over 100 (100.7) and scoring above expected student performance growth in the Value Added measure.
Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott Weingart reminded everyone that in honor of the achievement, the district will celebrate Warrior Pride Day today, with students encouraged to wear green and white.
