NEW SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Raymond E. Bentfeld, 91, formerly of Woodworth Road, passed away at 4:19 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center in Columbiana, where he had been a resident for the past 2 1/2 years.
Raymond was born March 29, 1921 in Enon Valley, a son of the late Charles and Mary Scherer Bentfeld and had resided in the New Springfield area since, 1952, coming from Enon Valley. He was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran.
He had been employed as tow truck operator and a master mechanic at the former Truscon Steel plant of Youngstown, where he retired in 1979.
He was a member of New Springfield United Methodist Church. He was also a member of New Springfield VFW, New Springfield Volunteer Fire Department, and Unity Grange No. 1761.
His wife, Mary Jane (Wilson) Bentfeld, whom he married January 1, 1944, preceded him in death on March 10 of this year. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Charles K., Robert and Albert Bentfeld.
Raymond is survived by a son, Kenneth (Barbara) Bentfeld, Austintown; a daughter, Betty Lou (John) Wolsonovich, Brockton, Mass.; four grandchildren, Ladd and Tem Wolsonovich and Kenneth and Michele Bentfeld; and six great-grandchildren; and his brother, Peter Bentfeld.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 27 at Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, East Palestine, with Pastor Jonathan George officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
