LISBON - A tentative format has been set for Wednesday's annual Candidate Forum sponsored by the Morning Journal and WKBN FirstNews/Fox 17/62 at Lisbon's David Anderson High School auditorium.

The debate begins at 6 pm. with Democrat former Congressman Charlie Wilson of St. Clairsville, who is trying to win back the 6th District seat he lost to Bill Johnson two years ago. Johnson, the incumbent Republican, has not responded to our invitation to participate.

Taking the stage next will be candidates for Columbiana County Sheriff, the incumbent Ray Stone, Republican of Salem and his challenger John Soldano, an East Liverpool Democrat who is the current Leetonia village police chief.

Next up will be candidates for county treasurer, Linda Bolon, a Columbiana Democrat who served in that position previously and Eldena Gearhart, a Negley Republican who is currently a Middleton Township trustee.

They will be followed by candidates for county recorder, Theresa Bosel, a Republican from Lisbon and Brenda Dickey Myers, a Salem Democrat.

Following recorder candidates will be those vying for state representative with the incumbent, Republican Craig Newbold of Columbiana and his challenger, Nick Barborak, a Lisbon Democrat who is currently serving as county treasurer.

Next will be candidates for commissioner Jan. 2 term - John Wargo of Salineville, running as an independent, who has served as commissioner in the past; John Payne, an East Liverpool Democrat who was appointed to the seat after Penny Traina resigned; and Tim Weigle, an East Palestine Republican who currently serves as Unity Township trustee.

Finishing the evening will be candidates for commissioner Jan. 3 term - the incumbent, Republican Jim Hoppel of East Liverpool challenged by Democrat Joe Csonka of Lisbon, a current Center Township trustee.

Candidates will be allowed a two-minute introduction which will be followed by questions submitted in advance by our readers. All questions will be posed by either Dorma J. Tolson, Morning Journal editor or Lori McIntosh, Journal advertising director. No questions from the audience will be allowed.

Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Larry Dorschner, publisher of the Morning Journal and moderator will be Teresa Weakley, co-anchor of WKBN FirstNews and Fox 17/62.
