Bears begin tourney play with convincing 12-0 victory

NEW MANCHESTER - There's no doubt the Bears are ready for postseason play.

The Oak Glen girls soccer team kicked off the playoffs in grand fashion on Tuesday with a 12-0 shutout over visiting Magnolia in a West Virginia Class AA/A soccer quarterfinal.

"It was a good first half,"?Oak Glen coach Sam Paletta said. "It was only 3-0 then. We made a few adjustments at halftime. They listened and it worked. It's almost scary when they listen. It really opened the flood gates."

The win moves Oak Glen's record to 10-8-1 on the season.

The Bears could seem to do no wrong on the day as nearly everyone chipped in on the winning effort.

Leading the way offensively with three goals was Cassandra Deremer.

Megan Collins - who netted her 100th career goal on October 6- added two more goals to go along with two assists.

Alex Burch finished with one goal and two assists, while Emily Bodo had one goal and one assist.

Also netting goals for Oak Glen was Gabi Lemley, Jennifer Mangano, Lydia Groves, Aisha Libatore and Jessi King.

Playing in goal for the Bears was Casey Highfield (four saves) and Erin Fields (two saves).

Up next for Oak Glen will be a semifinal matchup at Wheeling Central on Thursday.
