NEGLEY - A fire early Wednesday destroyed a mobile home and the two-story wood frame home nearby on Southern Street.
Fire Capt. Bev Shell said the Negley Fire Department responded to the call around 1:30 a.m. and found the mobile home fully involved.
"The house was starting to get going pretty good," she said.
The mobile home was adjacent to the wood frame home at 50557 Southern St., and both are owned by Patricia Chaffin and were destroyed. They were not insured, Shell said.
The Negley department requested mutual aid from the New Waterford and East Palestine departments, and firefighters battled both blazes until roughly 5 a.m., she added.
She also said Chaffin was not home at the time and the fire was first seen by a passerby who was able to wake up a neighbor who then notified the department.
No one was in the home, and firefighters were able to move two dogs in the backyard away from the home during the blaze, she said.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and remains under investigation.
