Trustees discuss used guardrail posts

October 12, 2012
Morning Journal News

FRANKLIN SQUARE -Salem Township trustee Chairman John Wilms said he would check with an Akron supplier about the price of used guardrail posts for township road work.

Wilms said an advertisement said that it looked like they were put in and pulled (right) back out."

He said the price was $10 each while new posts priced out at $23.75 apiece.

The township needs about 84 for a section of road and Wilms said the vendor had 100.

"They're regular guardrail posts," Wilms said and Trustee Bill Heston said they should go ahead and get them.

The township will have to pick them up, Wilms said, adding he would call "and see where's he's at."

Trustee also discussed obtaining a quote for road ash and Heston suggested it was a good idea to "get a quote."

In other business, trustees approved an excavation permit for Sharon Grim on Butcher Road for the installation of a waterline; passed a resolution approving an annual performance evaluation for Constable Dan Valentine and a semi-annual evaluation for road department employee Erik Saska; approved a resolution for Fiscal Officer Cathy Wilms to represent the board at a public records training conference; and approved the September check reconciliation ledger and and cash summary report.

Also, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources sent a permit to drill notification on the Roy D well on Winona Road. Cathy Wilms said it was duplicate since the township had already received one.

Also, John Wilms said he received a call from a Fox Den Drive resident regarding a blacktopping project that was completed on the street.

He said the resident wanted to express their appreciation for the work.

"We appreciate the good comments,' Wilms said, noting they don't get many of them.

Wilms also noted the seeding and cemetery work is completed and "ready to go."

Heston said, "It looks nice, excellent job."
