Patrol investigating crash that killed East Palestine man

NORTH LIMA - An East Palestine man was killed in a head-on crash Wednesday night on state Route 7.

According to authorities, Joseph Flynn, 52, North Pleasant Drive, was southbound on Route 7 when his car collided with a northbound vehicle driven by Leonilde Miranda, 80, of Youngstown. The crash happened around 9 p.m. near Mennonite Drive in Beaver Township.

Township police immediately requested assistance from Columbiana police to shut down a portion of Route 7 at Pine Lake while emergency responders assessed the scene. A lifeflight was called in but not used and Flynn and Miranda were instead taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, according to reports.

Flynn was pronounced dead at the hospital. Miranda was last listed in critical condition as of Thursday.

The highway patrol is investigating the crash.
