COLUMBIANA - E. Marie Bowen, 89, of Columbiana, passed away Thursday evening of infirmities of age at Parkside Health Care Center.
Marie was born on January 13, 1923 in Rogers, Ohio, the daughter of Ralph and Vietta (Hawkins) Townsend.
After graduating North Lima High School, Marie married Melvin E. Bowen on June 12, 1940. A homemaker, she enjoyed cooking and taking care of people. She was active for many years as the Sunday school secretary for First Christian Church of Columbiana. She enjoyed growing flowers, and was a member of the Nimble Fingers sewing group of the church.
Marie leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter, Linda Bowen of Louisville, KY; her son, Merle (Sandy) Bowen of Columbiana; ten grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her stepmother Eleanor Stouffer Townsend; husband Melvin, who passed away April 12, 2004; a son Melvin "Jake" Bowen, who passed away July 6, 2001; and four brothers, Lloyd, Edgar "Dick", Ralph, and Harry Townsend, who died as an infant.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 8, at the Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with Minister Clarence Mansfield and Minister John Reed officiating.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 7 and one hour prior to the services Monday, October 8 at the funeral home.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers and if friends desire, donations may be made in Marie's memory to the First Christian Church Oasis Food Ministry Fund.
