EAST LIVERPOOL - Tests for several openings will be scheduled by the Civil Service Commission after requests by Service-Safety Director Ryan Estell were received this week.
The commission met Wednesday and discussed upcoming testing dates for an entry-level laborer position in the Refuse & Recycling Department as well as those for police captain and assistant fire chief.
It was agreed the required advertising for the R&R test will take place during three weeks in October, with a test scheduled for Nov. 7, most likely at the Mary Patterson building. More details will be forthcoming.
It was reported that the current R&R eligibility list expires Oct. 13.
The police and fire tests are promotional and will be open only to current members of the departments with specific criteria.
Commission member John Fisher said a question has been raised regarding a requirement that those taking the captain's test have two years of service. He said no formal request for a legal opinion has been made about the issue, however.
The commission is looking at scheduling the promotional exams for police captain and assistant fire chief in mid-December.
The permanent appointment of Darin Morgan as police captain was approved by the commission, with member Steve Bell absent. His appointment was effective Aug. 22 with an hourly salary of $23.52.
Morgan is replacing Captain Norm Curtis who recently retired.
The commissions next regular meeting will be at 5:15 p.m. Nov. 7.
