SALINEVILLE - Wilfred J. Burnip, 89, of West Main Street, Salineville, died late Wednesday evening at the Carroll Healthcare Center in Carrollton, Ohio.
Wilfred was born in Salineville, February 2, 1923 a son of the late Thomas and Annie Lindner Burnip
Wilfred graduated high school and lived all his life in the Salineville area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WW II in the China, Burma, India theatre. He worked at Sterling Mining Company for nine years before working as a mail carrier at the Salineville Post Office until he retired. He was a member of the Salineville Church of Christ, a member of Masonic Lodge 348, and a member of the American Legion John Adams Post 442 in Salineville. He was an outdoor man who loved fishing, hunting and trapping.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Marjorie Johnson Burnip at home; one son, Thomas J. Burnip of Salineville; one daughter, Cynthia O. Burnip of Salineville; one sister, Jean Saxton of Rayland, Ohio; three grandchildren, William Burnip of Kansas City, Missouri, Jacob Burnip of Augusta, Georgia, and Molly Burnip of Columbia, South Carolina.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Bernadine Goddard.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct 9, at the Kerr-Pastore Funeral Home with Fred O. May and Wayne Kaser of the Salineville Church of Christ officiating.
Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery with full military honors accorded.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 p.m. where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
