Dash to Mat's Bash being held Oct. 13

WELLSVILLE - Preparations are being made for the fourth annual "Dash to Mat's Bash" by the Mathugh Johnston Memorial Corp. and Ohio Valley College of Technology. The 1.5 mile fun walk/run, set for Oct. 13, is a costume-based event through the village of Wellsville, taking in scenic Riverside Avenue, beginning at the Wellsville Municipal Building on Main Street. This year the race will be in memory of the late Vickie McCombs. The race will encompass Main, Ninth, and Fifth streets, and on race days those roads will be closed for approximately one hour. Race registrations can be found at "Dash for Mat's Bash" Facebook page, requested via email at long28trl@att.net, or local businesses. Cost $10 per person and includes race packet, T-shirt, and entry for door prizes. Add $1 per size above XL. A kid's dash costs $5 will consist of a t-shirt, Halloween costume contest, candy bag, and other prizes. The third Fire Department Brigade Relay also will take place. The relay brigade will include six member teams, each running 400 meters for a total of the same 1.5 miles as the other participants. Each brigade of six members in Turnout Gear will hand off a water nozzle to the next participant until completion. Packet and t-shirt pick-up and late registration will be the day of the race beginning at 10:30 a.m. Late registration accepted until 1:45 p.m. at the municipal building. The kid's dash will start at 2 p.m. promptly followed with the 1.5 mile run/walk.

Basketball league registration being held

SALEM - The Salem Community Center is currently holding registration for the upcoming Youth Basketball League through Nov. 5. The league is for children in grades K-6 with all games played on Saturdays beginning in January. Any family registering two or more children will receive a $10 family rate discount off of the total registration fee. Indoor soccer registration being held

SALEM - Registration for the Center Circle Salem Indoor Sports Complex Session 1 Soccer is currently open. Open Registration will be held through Oct. 21. The league will run Oct. 29 Dec. 16 (seven weeks). The cost per team is $490 (does not include referee fees and is non-refundable). Teams registering by Sept. 30 will receive a $50 discount. Swimming lessons to be held

SALEM - The Salem Community Center will host another session of the popular swim lesson program beginning on Oct. 6th and running every Saturday, ending on Nov. 24th. Six Learn to Swim levels are available, along with a Mommy and Me level for infants and their parent. Instructors are American Red Cross WSI certified with years of experience. Oak Glen High School PE Riverfest 5K

NEW CUMBERLAND - The New Cumberland Park Board is sponsoring The Oak Glen High School PE Riverfest 5K at 9 a.m. Sept. 29. The race is scheduled to begin at Hines Park Gazebo on Route 2 in New Cumberland. Proceeds will benefit the Oak Glen High School Physical Education Department. Registration forms are available at: the New Cumberland City Building, at the Hancock County schools, Trinity United Methodist Church, Plaza Lounge, Potts Marathon and Chaney's Service Station. Wellsville painted Tiger paws for sale

WELLSVILLE - The Wellsville Touchdown Club will be selling "Tiger Paws" painted on your sidewalk. They are bright orange 18"x18". All proceeds will help support the Daw Middle School and Wellsville High School football players. The cost of each paw is $10.
