Volleyball

West Branch wins in straight sets

BELOIT - The West Branch Lady Warriors defeated Alliance 25-23, 25-20, 25-17 Tuesday at West Branch High School.

Leading the Lady Warriors was Madie Malloy with nine points including three aces. Kaylee Manning added nine points, two aces and 15 assists, and Baily McElwain had 17 digs.

Cheyenne Harris had seven assists for Alliance (2-13, 0-7 NBC).

West Branch also won the J.V. affair 25-9, 25-17. Paige Walsh had 16 points and seven aces, and Sarah Weber had six kills, nine assists and four blocks.

West Branch (4-7, 2-5 NBC) plays Thursday at Carrollton.

Carrollton sweeps Salem

CARROLLTON - Carrollton defeated Salem in straight sets Tuesday 25-22, 25-20, 25-23.

Leading Salem was Lindsey Foster with nine kills, five aces and two blocks. Taylor Holenchick added six kills, and Meghan Lehwald had four digs.

The Salem J.V. team (9-2) won 25-18, 10-25, 30-28. Olivia Stiff had nine kills and six aces, Alyssa Pallo added 11 digs, and Kelly Barley tacked on 24 assists.

Salem (7-4, 4-3 NBC) will host Louisville Thursday.

United handles Lisbon

HANOVERTON - United beat Lisbon in straight sets 25-8, 25-19, 25-22 Tuesday.

Leading United was Emily Zehentbauer with 14 digs and two aces. Claudia Rockhold added 10 kills, and Courtney Hydrick had five kills.

Lisbon was led by Sarah Boyd with eight digs.

United also won the J.V. contest 25-14, 24-26, 27-25. Logan Daggy had five kills. Morgan Smallwood added four.

JM drops Range

NORTH JACKSON - Jackson-Milton beat South Range in four sets Tuesday.

Leading the Lady Bluejays (9-0, 7-0 ITCL Tier 1) was Gabby Tharp with 20 points. Erica Hughes added 22 kills.

For Range (6-4, 4-3 ITCL Tier 1), Jordan Youngs had 11 points, 29 digs and an ace. Stevie Taylor added six points and four aces and nine kills, and Ashley Shetter had 10 kills.

Reserve tops Southern

BERLIN CENTER - Western Reserve defeated Southern in volleyball action Tuesday 25-16, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20.

Leading Reserve (6-2, 4-2 ITCL Tier 2) was Rachel Maslach with 20 points, 18 assists, five aces, five kills and eight digs. Taylor Kilbert added 23 points and 10 digs.

For Southern, Hannah Brothers had 25 assists and 17 digs.

Ridge sweeps EP

MINERAL RIDGE - Mineral Ridge beat East Palestine in straight sets Tuesday 25-15, 25-22, 25-20. McKenzie Garland had 24 points, two aces, seven kills, 15 assists and three blocks for the Lady Rams (3-7, 2-5 ITCL Tier 1).

For EP (2-9, 0-7 ITCL Tier 1), Rachel Monteleone had 10 points and five kills. Carley Sansenbaugher added five kills.

East Palestine won the J.V. game.

Leetonia bests Sebring

SEBRING - The Leetonia Bears knocked off Sebring 25-17, 19-25, 27-25, 25-23 Tuesday. McKenzie Smith had 13 points, 5 kills and aces for the Bears. Janel Yaeger had 10 points, 2 aces and 10 digs.

Leetonia travels to Ursuline Wednesday.

Cross Country

Suburban League Meet

CANFIELD - South Range's Tim Nichols took second place (16:45.25) out of 297 runners at Tuesday's Suburban League Cross Country Meet in Canfield. Mark Hadley from Boardman took first (16:29.67).

United's Cole Weikart took 20th (17:53.01) and James Kataro 25th (18:03.55).

West Branch's J.P. Overly finished 34th (18:14.43).

Boardman won the overall event. Canfield was second. United took seventh and West Branch ninth out of 23 teams.

United's Allison Parks raced to a second-place finish in the girls event (19:36.76) trailing only Canfield's Emma Lunne (19:29.48).

South Range's Matti Dunham took ninth (20:40.38) and Monica Patrick 11th (20:51.91). Madelyn Kimpel finished 15th (20:55.97) and Mollie Pierson 20th (21:17.27) in the 233-runner field.

East Palestine's Haley Hall took 24th (21:48.71) and Hannah Hall took 33rd (21:54.87).

Lisbon's Carmen Phillips finished 18th (21:08.56) and Bobbi Jo Evans 29th (21:51.49.

Columbiana's Sara Saverko took 41st (22:26.43).

Poland won the overall event. South Range was second. East Palestine finished eighth and Lisbon 13th.

South Range's Ian Pierson won the middle school boys race (11:45.36) out of 218 runners.

United's Brynn Hofmeister was the top area middle school finisher in the girls race taking seventh (13:55.91) out of 215 runners.

Boys Soccer

Heartland 1, Maplewood 1

COLUMBIANA - Heartland Christian and Maplewood played to a 1-1 tie Tuesday. Sam Flynn scored on an assist from Durand Winnale for Heartland. Michael Smith scored for Maplewood. Drew Fountain had 14 saves for the Lions.

Heartland (3-3-1) hosts Mathews at the former South Range Middle School in Greenford at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Heartland Christian (3-3-1) next hosts Mathews at the former South Range Middle School in Greenford on Thursday,September 20th at 5:00 PM. Maplewood (5-1-2) host JFK-Warren on Wed. Sept. 19th.

Freshman Volleyball

Salem vs. Crestview

SALEM - Salem freshman volleyball improved to 8-0 with a 25-18, 25-14 win over Crestview Tuesday. Kendra Richardson had three aces and two kills. Kacey Costal had three aces and five kills. Linzy Haueter had three kills, and Shelby Daily had four digs.

The Salem freshman team will host a tri-match against Beaver Local and West Branch at 5:30 p.m. today at Salem High School.
