RANDLEMAN, N.C. - Eloise C. Whitslar, 92, of Randleman, NC, formerly of Negley, passed away at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Adams Farm Living & Rehabilitation, Jamestown, where she had been a resident for the past year.
Eloise was born November 21, 1919 in East Palestine, a daughter of the late Bert L. and Isabell Hill Young, and had resided in the area most of her life, until moving to North Carolina several years ago. She, along with her husband, Merle, had owned and operated the former Whitslar's General Store in Negley, OH, from 1950, until their retirement in 1982.
She was a member of the Negley United Methodist Church, and was a charter member of the Ladies Combined Class of the church, and had served as its secretary for over fifty years. Eloise had also served as the Sunday School Superintendent for several years, as well as being a member of the Mt. Zion Homemakers, where she served as treasurer. She was a 1937 graduate of East Palestine High School, and enjoyed baking, being known for her pies in the Negley area.
Her husband, Merle E. Whitslar, whom she married February 15, 1941, preceded her in death on September 17, 1985. She was also preceded by a son, Larry L. Whitslar on November 6, 2005, a brother, Bert Young, and three sisters, Marion Huston, Jean Lengel, and Nelda Jones.
Eloise is survived by a daughter, Peggy L. (Gary) Allshouse, with whom she resided; a sister, Rita Dilling, North Ft. Myers, FL; two grandsons, Eric (Melodie) Allshouse, Haw River, NC, and Brian Allshouse, Randleman, and two great grandsons, Ryan and Reid, both of Haw River, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, East Palestine, OH, with Pastor Kathy Barton of the church, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday.
