Morning Journal News

EAST LIVERPOOL - Josh Martin, a 1996 graduate of East Liverpool High School, will be inducted into the Tiffin University Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 21, at an induction ceremony held at the Gillmor Center on the campus of Tiffin University.

Martin played men's basketball at Tiffin University from 1998-2001, graduating in 2001 with a BBA in Human Resources.

"It's truly an honor to receive recognition of this level. I was always hopeful to receive this honor, but I was honestly stunned to hear the news, being that I have not been out of school that long," Martin said.

During his time at Tiffin, Martin established himself as one of the premier post players in the history of the school. He scored 1,526 points during his college career to go along with 800 rebounds. He was an American Mideast All-Conference selection each season at Tiffin, was named Honorable Mention All-American in 2000, and was named NAIA National Player of the Week during the week of Jan. 17-23, 2000.

Twice at Tiffin, Martin was selected as team MVP. He still appears in the Top 10 in seven different offensive categories in the Tiffin University record book.

To compliment his athletic achievements, Martin was named to the Dean's List each semester while at Tiffin, and graduated as a member of the prominent Delta Mu Delta Business Honorary.

Martin also recently was inducted into the East Liverpool High School Athletic Hall of Fame, during a ceremony that kicked off the Potters football season during the weekend of Aug. 24-25. During his time as a Potter basketball player, he was the recipient of the Bob Devon/Hi-Y Award, the Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award, was a second team Division I All-State selection, and was first team All-OVAC and the Eastern District, River Valley League, and Columbiana County Player of the Year. He was selected to play in the Ohio North-South All-Star Game and the prestigious Ohio vs. Pennsylvania Rising Stars Classic. Upon graduation, he had dozens of full scholarship offers due to his athletic accomplishments.

Martin said he was particularly happy with the timing of the Hall of Fame honors, since he and his family are able to celebrate two inductions that are merely a few weeks apart.

"The timing is great for me and my family," he said. "We have been given the opportunity to be a part of two great events at two places that are near to my heart.

"Tiffin University is a special place to me, and it always will be. My induction to the Hall of Fame symbolizes the final chapter of my athletic career. I have a new life now, and my interests lie in starting a family and continuing my work in the field of disabled and disadvantaged individuals."

Since 2002, Martin has worked for the Columbiana County board of Developmental Disabilities and currently serves as the Medical Services Manager. He resides at Lake Tomahawk with his wife, Maria.

The 2012 Tiffin University Hall of Fame Ceremony is 5:30-9:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Gremlin Center in Tiffin, Ohio. Tickets for the event are $45 each, and include dinner, drinks, and admission to the media events, silent auction, and induction ceremony.
