Robert Watson

HANOVERTON - Robert Earl Watson, age 92, of Hanoverton passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 at his residence.

Bob was born July 12, 1920 in Wellsville, Ohio to Walter "Slim" and Florence Mae (Thompson) Watson. He has lived at the present address since 1951.

Bob was a former member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Highlandtown. He graduated from Wellsville High School in 1938. Bob was in the U.S. Army 44th General Hospital. After he was discharged from the Army in 1946, he owned and co-operated a truck hauling coal and steel for three years.

He was past president of Columbiana County Fire Dept. Association, was fire chief for 18 years of the Hanover Volunteer Fire Dept. and a Hanover Township trustee.

Bob belonged to American Legion Post No. 684 in Hanoverton, a member of Carnation Classic Auto Association in Alliance, a member of Tri State Auto Club, was on Hanoverton Village Council for two and a half terms, a member of National AARP Association and had worked for Loudon Garage in Hanoverton for 20 years. Before his retirement he owned and operated Watson Sales and Service, which he ran for 32 years.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Bette" Elizabeth (Rowe) Watson, whom he married Feb. 12, 1946; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Billie of Wellsville, Ohio and Mrs. Grace Eileen Halter of Bridgeport, Tx.; two brothers, Walter Watson of Hanoverton and Donald Watson of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Jack and Harold.

Calling hours will be at Hanoverton Presbyterian Church on Wednesday from 11-12 a.m. The funeral will be at Hanoverton Presbyterian Church on Wednesday at 12 p.m. with Pastor Tom Allmon officiating. Burial will be a Grove Hill Cemetery in Hanoverton, where military honors will be provided by American Legion, VFW and DAV. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hanover Township Fire Department.
