LISBON - Both accidental shootings on Saturday were with .22-caliber rifles.
According to sheriff's reports, Josie Vogan, Hawkins Road, New Waterford, reported at 5:39 p.m. Saturday she went into the bedroom and got out a .22-caliber rifle. She cocked the gun in the kitchen and it went off, striking her in the calf.
She was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital by New Waterford EMS.
Gale Allen, Fife Coal Road, Wellsville, reported a shooting at 7:02 p.m. Saturday. When deputies arrived they found John Watkins, Forbes Road, Wellsville, with a laceration in the area of his collar bone near his neck, caused by a bullet which struck him while he was in the woods checking a tree stand.
Watkins reported to deputies he heard six or seven simultaneous shots in the area, where some people were having a get-together. One of the bullets hit him, while he was ducking for cover. He yelled at people he was there and had been shot.
Deputies spoke with the campers, who were Jason Goldsby and three of his friends. Goldsby told deputies he was shooting at a beer can and heard a man yelling from inside the woods. He put his .22-caliber rifle away and waited for authorities to arrive.
The matter has been sent to the prosecutor's office for review, but at this time no charges have been filed.
