Chester Old Timers advance with win

STRUTHERS - The Chester Old Timers baseball team advanced to the winner's bracket final by defeating Warren, 8-2, Saturday at Cene Park. Bill Sattler went the distance to pick up the win for Chester (14-2). Offensively, Mark?Schwertfeger recorded a single and double, Paul?Snatchko contributed a double and Lou Ward and Sattler each had single. Chester will play Boardman at noon today in the winner brack final at Cene Park.

Junior fall tennis league forming

BOARDMAN - The 11th Annual BTC Fall Junior Team Tennis League is now taking entries. Play is at the Boardman Tennis Center on Sundays beginning Oct. 7. Tier 1 (9th grade and over) and Tier 2 (8th grade and under) play a nine-match schedule and ends Dec. 16. Players are put on teams of six or eight players. Each person plays roughly 2 1/2 sets of singles and doubles against players of similar ability in any given match. There are two bye weeks, and the league is off Thanksgiving weekend. Girls who will still be playing Ohio high school tennis may request an opening week bye. There are different entry fees depending on whether a person is a club member, non member or a non member who takes lessons/clinics there. There is a "top player" discount for players who have a USTA top 10 ranking or high school players who were No. 1 or No. 2 on their team. The entry deadline is Sept. 19 or when 128 players have returned forms with payment. Forms can be picked up and turned in at the Boardman Tennis Center located at 1223 W.Western-Reserve Road in Boardman, or can be faxed. 3-D Archery shoots to be held on Sundays

NEW MANCHESTER - The Chester/Newell Sportsman Club will be holding 3-D archery shoots every Sunday during September. Registration will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon. The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for youth. There will be 30 3-D targets featuring McKenzie XT's. The club is located on Gas Valley Road behind the Green Valley Dairy. Use Green Valley Dairy Drive and continue past the farm to the clubhouse. For information, call 304-479-3456.

Calcutta Lions Club raffling Steelers package

CALCUTTA - The Calcutta Lions Club is offering a chance to win a Steelers package for the Oct. 28 game versus the Washington Redskins. The package includes:?two game tickets, $100 cash, $100 gas card and two Steelers jerseys. Raffle tickets are $5 and are available from any Lions Club member or at the following locations:?Hoge's Restaurant, Four Seasons Mini Mart, J Sabatini Shoes, Calcutta Lock Specialties, Stitch-a-Long Quilt Shop. Drawing will be held Oct. 9.

Wyandot Bowmen outdoor 3-D shoots

NEW CUMBERLAND - Outdoor 3-D Shoots will be held at Wyandot Bowmen on Tope-Florence Rd. in New Cumberland on Sept. 3. Sign-ups are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 youth. EAST LIVERPOOL - Registration for the East Liverpool YMCA fall sports leagues is now open. Deadline is Sept. 9. Forms can be picked up at both the EL and Calcutta YMCA locations. For more information, call 330-385-0663.

Bowling league to hold rules meeting

EAST LIVERPOOL - The National Bowling League will have a meeting for all teams members at 6 p.m. Monday to go over the league rules. The start of the season will begin after the meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Wellsville VFD golf scramble to be Sept. 15

WELLSVILLE - The Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department is holding a three-man golf scramble Sept. 15 at Turkana Golf Course. The tournament begins 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Field is limited to 36 teams. Top team receives $1,200. Steak dinner follows tournament. Contact Tony D'Angelo at 330-853-4926 to schedule a tee time.

Touchdown club to meet Thursday
