Volleyball

Louisville spoils Rich-Winner's debut

LOUISVILLE - Louisville dropped Salem in the debut of new Lady Quakers head coach Allie Rich-Winner 25-19, 25-20, 19-25, 25-15.

The Lady Quakers are back in action Thursday when they host Minerva.

The Salem J.V. squad also fell 20-25, 25-16, 16-25.

Full results were not reported to the Salem News.

Carrollton takes WB

CARROLLTON - Carrollton defeated West Branch in straight sets Tuesday in volleyball action 25-23, 25-14, 25-13.

Leading West Branch was Kaylee Manning with nine points. Kaitlyn Edie added nine kills.

West Branch won the J.V. match 25-15, 25-23. Rachele Whaley tallied 11 points for the Lady Warriors (4-0). Lexington Pittman added three kills, and Sarah Weber had seven assists.

West Branch (2-1) plays Thursday at Louisville.

Springfield drops Lisbon

LISBON -Springfield graduated five seniors from its Inter-Tri County League Tier championship volleyball team in the spring.

"People are not expecting us to be as good as last year," current senior Gabby Fellows said. "But we want to show that we're better."

The Tigers started off the league slate with a 25-12, 25-19, 25-23 win over Lisbon on Tuesday.

Fellows had 10 kills and eight points. Olivia Williamson had six kills, three blocks and 11 points. Kylie Kohler had 13 points, six kills and an ace. Marissa Buchenic had 25 assists and Kennedy Richey had 34 digs.

Lisbon was led by Kenadee Pezzano's nine kills, eight digs and four blocks.

Ana Sanor added 21 assists.

Lisbon won the J.V. match 26-24, 25-20. Jenna Dickson had four kills to lead the Devil reserves (3-0). Landri Moore added 10 assists. Emily Stacy had 14 points for Springfield.

Springfield is at South Range on Thursday.

Lisbon will host Sebring and Heartland on Saturday.

United too much for EP

EAST PALESTINE - United dropped East Palestine in straight sets Tuesday in volleyball action 25-22, 25-20, 25-23.

Leading United was Courtney Hydrick with 15 kills. Mackenzie Firth added 33 assists, and Emily Zehentbauer had 18 digs.

Carley Sansenbaugher had 11 blocks, 10 kills and 20 digs for East Palestine. Karly Pence added six points and 24 digs.

United improves to 2-1, 1-0 ITCL Tier 1.

United also won the J.V. contest 25-10, 27-25. Morgan Smith had four aces and Logan Daggy had five kills for the Lady Eagles.

Carson Rutledge had 12 points and six aces for East Palestine.

South Range handles MR

CANFIELD - South Range dropped Mineral Ridge 25-20, 25-22, 25-22 Tuesday.

For South Range, Ashley Shetter had 15 kills, eight digs, two aces and seven points. Stevie Taylor added nine kills, 15 digs and 10 points, and Madison Juillerat had 21 assists and five digs.

South Range also won the J.V. contest 25-17, 25-17. Eliza Garlough had nine digs, two kills, four points and an ace. Madeline Hiner had seven aces, seven assists and four digs.

South Range (2-1, 1-0 ITCL Tier 1) host Springfield Thursday.

Boys Soccer

Salem 8, Louisville 1

SALEM - The Salem Quakers dropped Louisville 8-1 Tuesday in Salem.

Scoring two goals each for Salem was Keaton O'Brien and Dan Rumsey. Brad Larson, Alex Weikart, Troy Kuhns and Blake Veglia all added a goal.

Caleb Quinn had two assists, and Zach Economous had six saves in goal.

"We came out very flat in the first half, but I'm proud of our team for their second half effort. The offense created great opportunities in the second half, and the defense played well again," head coach Matt Freeman said.

Salem (3-0) hosts Canfield Thursday.

West Branch 7, Carrollton 0

BELOIT - West Branch blanked Carrollton 7-0 in soccer action Tuesday. Skyler Gaves had two goals for the Warriors.

Anthony Miner, Parker Zamarelli, Alex Waggoner, Josh Davis, Tyler Ware all added goals.

Ware and Waggoner also both added assists as did Dalton Young and Dylan Greenawalt.

West Branch plays Saturday at Columbiana.

Crestview 11, East Palestine 1

COLUMBIANA - The Crestview boys soccer team rolled East Palestine 11-1 in their opening ITCL match of the season. Greg Bable and Caleb McGath had three goals each. Bable added an assist as well.

Crestview is now 2-1-1 and will face South Range wednesday 5pm.

South Range 5, United 2

HANOVERTON - South Range defeated United 5-2 in soccer action. For South Range, Andrew O'Leary had two goals and an assist. Tyler Ausnemer added two goals and Tyler Rothbauer also scored. Matt Russ had three assists.

For United, Kyle Yoder and Cole Weikart both scored.

United (0-2) plays today at East Palestine.

Girls Soccer

Niles 3, Salem 1

NILES - Niles defeated Salem 3-1 in girls soccer action Tuesday. Julia Dundon had Salem's lone goal on an assist from Katie Mathews. Raegan Meals had 16 saves in goal. Mackenzie Schwartz added 14.

The Salem J.V. team fell 7-2. Salem plays a varsity only contest tonight at Lousiville.

United 2, South Range 0

HANOVERTON - United defeated South Range 2-0 in girls soccer action. Diana Burnett and Emily Guappone both scored for the Lady Eagles.

United also tied Minerva in their first match of the season 1-1. Cassidy Yoder scored for the Lady Eagles.

United (1-1) will play at Crestview Sept. 5.

Golf

West Branch 155, Alliance 177

BELOIT - West Branch dropped Alliance 155-177 in golf actino Tuesday. Ryan Adams was medalist with 37. Drake Lohnes added 38, Beau Taylor 39 and Kolton Kitzmiller 41.

Bryce Hood shot a 39 for the Aviators.

West Branch improves to 7-1 overall and 7-1 in the NBC.

Leetonia 188, Southern 191

SALINEVILLE - Leetonia (6-2, 5-2 ITCL Tier 2) dropped Southern 188-191 Tuesday. Luke Janci was medalist with a 38. Corey Valentine shot 47, Josh Faulkner 50 and Ian Stecker 53.

Southern (3-6, 3-5 ITCL Tier 2) was led by Doug Tice's 39. Jimmy Giannone shot 48, Clayton Cunningham 49 and Mitch Hartline 55.

Struthers 186, Crestview 217

COLUMBIANA - Struthers dropped Crestview 186-217 at Copeland Hills.

Matt Thomas led the Wildcats with a 39. For Crestview, Craig Landberger shot 47, Tom Siembida 54, Preston Straney 58 and Enzo Lucci 58.

South Range 147, Crestview 153

BOARDMAN - South Range beat Crestview 147-153 in a shortened match Monday due to the weather. B.J. Schmidt shot 35 for the Radiers through seven holes. Tom Siembida shot 32 for Crestview in the same span.

Lisbon vs. East Palestine, Springfield

LISBON - East Palestine won a three-way match against Lisbon and Springfield Tuesday. Leading the Bulldogs (173) was Ryan Kemp with a 41. Andy Ellis shot 43, Phil Gerner 43 and D.J. Banley 46.

For Lisbon (204), Avery Andric shot 42. Jordan Rutecki posted 52, and Lucas Tolson and Matt Chestnut shot 55s.

Dustin Delsignore led Springfield (234) with a 51.

Cross Country

Suburban League meet at East Palestine

EAST PALESTINE - South Range's Tim Nichols turned in the best time for the boys (16:43.5) and Allison Parks was the highest area girls finisher in second place (20:32) Tuesday at the Suburban League Meet at East Palestine.

The South Range girls won the event with 35 points as Monica Petrick (21:18.70), Mollie Pieson (21:46.90), Matti Dunham (21:50.70) and Madelyn Kimpel (22:04.70) took fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh places respectively.

Canfield won the boys event with 54 points. United was second with 58 as Cole Weikart took third place (18:04.53). West Branch was fourth with 69 as J.R. Overly took seventh place (18:56.69).

Canfield won the middle school girls meet with 25 points. Poland and East Liverpool won the boys meet with 51 points each.

Junior High Volleyball

Salem vs. Louisville

SALEM - The Salem seventh grade volleyball team fell to Louisville 25-4, 25-13.

For Salem (0-1) Allie Davidson-Chuck had two points and one spike. Lacy Ewing had two points and an ace. Paige Butcher added two tips.

Salem (0-1) plays today at Minerva.

West Branch vs. Carrollton

BELOIT - West Branch beat Carrollton 25-8, 25-18 in their opening junior high volleyball match. Ashley Weber had 10 points and 10 digs. Brenna Rito added seven points and seven assists.

West Branch 5, Alliance 0

BELOIT - West Branch blanked Alliance 5-0 Tuesday. West Branch (4-1) plays Thursday at Louisville.
