Jackson wins Pigskin Picks

EAST LIVERPOOL - Gale W. Jackson, of East Liverpool, won the Pigskin Picks for Week 1. Jackson was one of two people to get all 10 picks correct. She was the closets to the tiebreaker.

Southern hosting Crucial Catch campaign

SALINEVILLE -The Southern Local football team will take on Lisbon at 7 p.m. Friday night at Wigwam Stadium, and the team will also be taking on an important cause off of the field - breast cancer. The players, cheerleaders, band and fans will all be involved in supporting the American Cancer Society as part of the NFL's A Crucial Catch campaign. This program raises funds and awareness to fight breast cancer and provides hope to those facing the disease.

Hall of fame banquet rescheduled

CALCUTTA - The Beaver Local Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Banquet has been rescheduled to Oct. 20. Tickets on sale at the Beaver Local administration offices, Campbell Signs & Apparel or call Janet at 330-386-3706.

East Liverpool football tickets on sale

EAST LIVERPOOL - Tickets for East Liverpool's football game Friday at Indian Creek are available in the high school office during regular school hours. Cost is $5 for adults and $4 for students.

Bowling league to hold rules meeting

EAST LIVERPOOL - The National Bowling League will have a meeting for all teams members at 6 p.m. Sept. 4 to go over the league rules. The start of the season will begin after the meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Oak Glen fans asked to wear gold Friday

NEW MANCHESTER - There will be a "Gold Rush" at Oak Glen's first home football game at the new stadium. Fans are asked to wear gold shirts to show their support for the team and celebrate the new stadium. The first 200 fans to enter the stadium Friday wearing a gold Oak Glen shirt will receive a commemorative Bearable Towel. Towels will also be available for purchase at the game. This season's gold shirts can be purchased at the New Cumberland Pharmacy or Chester's Citizen Drug Store before the game or at the shirt shack the day of the game for $10.

Captains meeting to be held Thursday

EAST LIVERPOOL - The Sportsman Bowling League will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Walnut Lanes. Single bowlers and teams are welcome to join.

Wellsville VFD golf scramble to be Sept. 15

WELLSVILLE - The Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department is holding a three-man golf scramble Sept. 15 at Turkana Golf Course. The tournament begins 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Field is limited to 36 teams. Top team receives $1,200. Steak dinner follows tournament. Contact Tony D'Angelo at 330-853-4926 to schedule a tee time.

Southern Local selling fall sports passes

SALINEVILLE - Southern Local fall sports passes are now on sale through the atheltic department from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is $20 for adult football, $40 for adult volleyball, $15 for students, $10 for athletes, $65 for family football, $75 for family volleyball, $125 for high school fall family, $170 for junior/senior high fall family, $12 for junior high football and $16 for junior high volleyball. Reserved seating passes can still be purchased for $40. Senior citizen passes for those living in the district are available at the superintendent's office.

Southern Local selling money club tickets

SALINEVILLE - The Southern Local Athletic Boosters are still selling money club tickets. Money will be given away each month. The tickets cost $40 for the year and drawings will begin in August. To purchace a ticket contact any athletic booster or call 330-853-1869 for information.

Wellsville football tickets on sale

WELLSVILLE - Wellsville will be selling football tickets Thursday and Friday for Friday night's game at Oak Glen. Tickets will be on sale from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, and from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the athletic office at the high school. The cost is $5 for adults, and $4 for students.
