LISBON - Lisbon- Sheryl D. Helman, 67, of North Market Street, passed away at 7:49am, Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Salem Community Hospital following a recent illness.
Mrs. Helman was born February 8, 1945 in Salem, the daughter of the late Lester and Thelma (DeLand) Culbertson, and was an area resident all her life.
A 1962 graduate of United Local School District, she worked as a secretary at Buckeye Industrial Mining for more than 20 years.
Mrs. Helman was a member of St. George Catholic Church; the West Point Lions Club; ladies auxiliary of the Lisbon VFW Post 4111; and various local card clubs.
She is survived by her husband John Helman, whom she married on June 26, 1965; sons Doug (Amber) Helman of Granville, Ohio, Greg (Denise) Helman of Salem, and Michael (Meghan Pangborn) Helman of Greenville, SC; sister Cherie Farmer of Seneca, SC; and grandchildren, Olivia, Davis, Cody, Karlie, Jordan, Emily.
A Catholic Mass will be held at 11am, Saturday, September 1, 2012 at St. George Catholic Church, 271 West Chestnut Street, with the Rev. James Lang officiating. Burial will follow in the Lisbon Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4pm and from 6 to 8pm, Friday at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 1:45pm.
